The economic value of music stems from the intellectual property (IP) rights associated with creative works, their performance, and transmission, in addition to its fundamental human and cultural value. MUSIC STREAMING PLATFORMS AND ENFORCEMENT OF IPR This blog will analyze the impact that music streaming services have had on the rights of the artists and the music industry by critically analyzing two of the most prominent streaming services, Spotify and Apple Music. The way music is transmitted has evolved in line with technological advancements, but the regulations governing copyright and royalties of artists and producers have not kept pace with the advancements of music streaming services. This is due to Spotify’s adoption of techniques to offer free subscriptions to its consumers, allowing them to listen to music for free. However, many people believe that streaming services like Spotify have become the most current example of music piracy in recent years. Users were offered the option of buying music for less money, and many in the business anticipated that this would encourage people to buy music ethically rather than illegally. In the fight against piracy, online music streaming services like Apple’s iTunes was considered evil. As a result, recruiting and engaging users is critical to platforms’ commercial success, as well as a driving force behind why and how platforms aim to control the flow of information, people, goods, and services. As a result, several businesses attempted to seize this chance to develop and compete in the digital music market.
